243rd Annual Big Fibbers Contest
Hear about a dozen storytellers from several states compete for the Whopper Hat and cash prizes with their tall tales. The contestants include previous Big Fibber winners, winners of storytelling awards in three other states, and at least a couple of hometown folks. Emceed by storyteller Natalie Jones who won the contest in 2016, was a featured storyteller at the 2017 Big Fibbers Festival, and is Arts Specialist at the Craddock Center. The Big Fibbers Storytelling Festival grew out of this event. We figure fibbing has been, at least unofficially, a competitive activity hereabouts since the founding of the republic, 243 years ago. And it IS a fibbing contest. The "modern" contest was founded in 2010 by local storytellers including our late friend Debby Brown.
