About the organization
The Chiaha Harvest Fair celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014, reveling in a rich tradition of bringing together many talented artisans and craftsmen from the Rome/Floyd County region, and beyond, for a wonderful Fall weekend festival with the goal of raising money to support local art efforts throughout the year.
In 1964 through the vision of Connie Conn and her friends, the Chiaha Guild organized its first fair to recognize local craftsmen. From a small backyard atmosphere, to the old fire station at City Hall, to a West First Street venue in front of Gibson-DeJournette Grocers, then Heritage Park, and finally Ridge Ferry Park, Chiaha has grown exponentially in number and quality of exhibitors, musicians, food vendors, and activities for children.
Connie Conn understood the need for support to local artists and promoted that vision in our community. Over the years, thanks to the work of many volunteers, that vision has grown into a festival that raises funds that fuel scholarships and grants supporting students, artists and musicians in the Rome/Floyd County region. The Creat-a-ha children’s area offers kids the opportunity to experience different forms of creativity, and the coloring sheets that go out to regional elementary schools give kids a chance to win prizes and get in free at the festival.
Chiaha has grown into a juried show of artists and craftsmen from all over the country, including many demonstrators, sharing the tricks of their craft throughout the weekend. The festival is known for its stellar entertainment, featuring musicians from far and near. And, the offerings of an unduplicated variety of local food vendors, many of whom raise money for their own good causes through the event, will surely satisfy your craving for delicious, hand-prepared treats. Speaking of tasty treats, don’t miss the cider pot, brewing throughout the weekend, with free cups of cider for all in attendance!
